Mountain Bikers Find a Home at Burnt Timber Brewing & Tavern

Biking Community

“Building community is central to my mission.”

Shortly after opening the tavern portion of the business, Owner Eddie Michno has offered Sunday Mountain Bike Rides as a way to bring people together. “Building community is central to my mission, and I can’t think of a better way to do that than to get people over here to ride the nearby trails,” he said. “We then enjoy a beverage and food afterwards.”

The group is inclusive, too, with riders of varying abilities, including Wolfeboro resident Catharina Allar, who described herself as “a returning from childhood mountain biker.” “I was very inexperienced in singletrack riding, although I love challenges,” she said. “Riding with this group has really pushed me to want to be a better rider, and having such experienced people around me has helped tremendously.”

Each Sunday ride is different. “There are some Sundays when we have an all-female group go out where some of the ladies have little to no previous experience riding in the woods,” she said. “There are all physical abilities and also all sorts of bikes out on these rides.”

In terms of where the rides take place, Michno said they leave directly from the parking lot at Burnt Timber Tavern. “Sewall Woods, Abenaki and Fernald Trails are locations we can get to in just a few minutes,” he said.

Regardless of the destination, Allar said two things are guaranteed at a Burnt Timber Tavern bike ride gathering. “The main thing is having a good time…and beer, a bit of beer,” she laughed.

Burnt Timber Bike Rides start at 10:30 am on Sundays at the brewery.
