Running With BTT

“It’s so important to create a sense of community here.”

While Sunday mountain bike rides provide a sense of togetherness for mountain bikers, Owner Eddie Michno also extends the offer to runners. “There’s so much that Wolfeboro has to offer, I want to provide a space for all fans of the outdoors,” he said. “It’s so important to create a sense of community here.”

Like their bike ride group, Burnt Timber Tavern’s running group is all-inclusive of various ages and levels. “Yeah we’re a lot of fun, mixed ages, and we run around 4 miles on Wednesdays,” said Jenny Hill, who has been part of the group for two years. “We meet at BTT, run, and then we finish at BTT and hang out for a while.”

Pace can change from week to week, and the group is supportive of all endurance levels. “You meet up with someone who wants to run at the pace that you want to run,” she added. “Some days, you want to run faster, sometimes slower, so it just depends how you feel that day.”

For Wolfeboro resident Erica Horsken, the group provided her with an entry-point back into running. “I felt welcomed and accepted by everyone,” she said. “You can run at your own pace and go any distance.”

“We also can get together on Sundays to run a bit more,” added Hill. “We mix up the trails.”

Members of the running group not only enjoy each others’ company, but relax afterwards in the tavern. “When you go there, you feel like you’re hanging out with friends and having a good time,” said Hill. “If you don’t know them, you end up knowing them.”

While both women “love” their running sessions, they enjoy Burnt Timber Tavern even more. “We love Eddie, and the atmosphere here is so great,” said Hill.

BTT running group ‘runs’ every Wednesday at 6pm, meeting in front of the tavern. A family-friendly brewpub with an open-flame outdoor kitchen and extensive food and rotating beer menu, Burnt Timber Brewing & Tavern is located at 96 Lehner St, Wolfeboro.
